Mr. Blake Brenneman

Blake brings a unique perspective to sashiko, blending traditional Japanese mending techniques with stories gathered from a lifetime of creative exploration. Based in the greater Washington, DC area, he's a multi-disciplinary artist specializing in bookbinding, papermaking, and sashiko work.

His approach to sashiko goes beyond simple repair—each piece becomes a meditation on resilience, transformation, and the beauty found in making things whole again. Drawing from his background in art history and years of collecting techniques from artisans worldwide, Blake creates sashiko pieces that honor the craft's heritage while speaking to contemporary sensibilities.

When he's not stitching, you might find Blake binding books by hand, making paper from scratch, or sharing stories from his travels. His work reflects a deep appreciation for traditional crafts and the belief that the most meaningful art serves a purpose in daily life.

Blake's sashiko pieces are functional art—utilitarian objects that carry both history and hope in every careful stitch.

Can I try just one session?

Yes—when a seat is open, you can join us with a Sashiko Club Guest Pass (1 Session).
It’s one gentle morning to test the rhythm, meet the group, and see if sashiko is your kind of calm.
Guest Passes are space-available and do not reserve a seat for future dates.

How does membership work?

Membership includes 6 Sashiko Club sessions to be used within 6 months of purchase. Come to the dates that work for you, settle in, and let the stitching meet you where you are.

Is this a progressive series? Will I be behind if I’m new?

Not at all. This is not a strict step-by-step course. Each meeting includes guidance, technique support, and stitching time—so beginners and returning members can share the same table beautifully.

Can I join anytime?

Yes. Sashiko Club is a monthly circle, and new members are welcome whenever a seat is open. We keep it intentionally cozy so everyone gets support and space to stitch.

Do I need a sewing machine?

Nope—this is hand-stitching only. Just you, needle, thread, and a little quiet magic.

Are supplies included?

If you choose Pay in Full, your Zen Kit is included.
If you choose Monthly Payments, the Zen Kit is not included (available separately).
Project-specific materials vary—bring what you’re working on, and we’ll guide you on what to add next.

What if I miss a meeting?

We’ll miss you—but your membership is still valid for 6 sessions within 6 months of purchase. (Seats are reserved and memberships are non-refundable, so plan the dates that fit your season.)

Can I cancel or get a refund?

Because seats are limited and reserved in advance, memberships are non-refundable once purchased. Please double-check your schedule before enrolling.

If I can no longer attend, can someone else use my spot?

Yes—if you can’t make it, you may gift/transfer your spot to a friend. Just let us know ahead of time so we can welcome them properly.
