About the event

Sew Magarbo is so excited to have Sewlebrity, Lee Monroe of May Chappell in the studio!

WHO IS LEE MONROE?

Lee has been creating since she first discovered crayons at age 2! She’s from a family of quilters and learned everything from her mother, affectionately known as The Guru. She loves all things fabric—from zippy pouch to queen size quilt—and everything in between. With a love of color and bold graphic shapes, Lee enjoys designing patterns and teaching all types of classes, while sharing her adventures on her blog, www.maychappell.com. She is a trained graphic designer which shows in her clean aesthetic. Her work has appeared in multiple publications. Lee is a BERNINA Ambassador, as well as a Creative Spark and Craftsy instructor. Lee is the author of Jump into Sewing (which is used and recommended in ALL of our beginner classes) and Color Basics for Makers, both published by C&T Publishing. She is an active member of the Triad Modern Quilt Guild. Lee lives in beautiful North Carolina with her dog, Agnes Piper.

THE EVENT:

During this intimate event, Lee will be giving a lecture on "Understanding the Rainbow". Who doesn’t love to talk about color? It’s the universal topic among textile artists. This lecture covers the basics of color theory and how those concepts lead to better quilts! Attendees will leave armed with many tools for choosing fabrics and a better understanding of how to expand their color horizons. The lecture includes a full trunk show exploring different aspects of color theory in quilts. Perfect for all level sewists.

After the lecture, Lee will offer a mini trunk show. Hear about her stitching journey as it weaves through generations. You will hear the stories behind the quilts; get inspiration for your projects and insight into the creative process.

And there's more! Lee will be sticking around to sign her latest book, "Color Basics for Makers" which is a must-have for all sewists. Take the book home to try out the concepts in any medium with hands-on exercises and practical beginner-friendly projects. Elevate your art with a true understanding of color theory!

  • Learn to select and use color with confidence with hands-on exercises that demystifies choosing and using colors
  • For every crafter and artist! Work with fabrics, paint, embroidery, printmaking, colored pencils, and more
