Paperless English Paper Piecing (EPP)

EPP without the paper? Say what?! 

English Paper Piecing (EPP) is a traditional quilting method where you wrap fabric around a paper shape and then sew the paper-wrapped pieces together. In this two-session class, students will learn a not-so-traditional  and very unique method of piecing WITHOUT the paper. 

Class Description:

Uncover the captivating world of English Paper Piecing (EPP) through a two-session workshop that explores innovative techniques and approaches. In this hands-on class, students will not only master the fundamental skills of EPP but will also learn unique methods that go beyond traditional paper piecing. Discover the art of fussy cutting, basting, and sewing together hexagons and diamonds, creating stunning quilt blocks and embellishments for any project.

Session 1: Mastering the Basics

In the first session, students will dive into the essentials of English Paper Piecing, covering the following topics:

1. Fussy Cutting Mastery: Explore the art of fussy cutting, a technique that allows you to select specific motifs or patterns within your fabric to create captivating visual effects. Learn how to precisely cut and position your fabric pieces to achieve stunning and symmetrical designs using directional fabric designs and specific motifs.
2. Basting Technique: We will cover the traditional thread-basting method that holds your fabric securely to the paper templates, ensuring a stable foundation for your EPP projects.
3. Paper-Free EPP: Explore the fascinating realm of paper-free EPP, a technique that eliminates the need for paper templates.

Session 2: Beyond Traditional EPP

Building on the foundation laid in the first session, the second class session introduces advanced techniques that elevate your English Paper Piecing projects:

1. Sewing with Dog-Ears: Gain expertise in sewing together EPP pieces, including how to handle dog-ears, those tiny fabric extensions that facilitate precise and smooth seams. Master the art of achieving neat and accurate intersections for impeccable results.
2. Adhering EPP Blocks: Instructor will teach three techniques for adhering your EPP blocks to various projects. 

Throughout both sessions, students will receive personalized guidance, troubleshooting tips, and creative inspiration to unlock their full potential in English Paper Piecing. Students will leave class with a Hexagon Flower made of hexagons and diamonds that can be attached to a variety of projects.

This class is designed for all levels of quilters. Students will work at their own pace during class. This is a hand-sewing class and no machine is needed.
