Our Bernina Educator
JOANNE LEONARD - The BERNINA Whisperer
Joanne’s passion for BERNINA is downright contagious. Sit beside her for five minutes and she’ll show you features you never knew existed! With over eight years of experience teaching and working in a successful BERNINA dealership, she has a gift for helping sewists find their perfect machine match—and fall in love with sewing all over again.

Her approach goes beyond the basics. Joanne loves showing how to personalize settings and unlock every hidden gem your machine has to offer. She’s known for her calm, encouraging teaching style that turns hesitation into confidence—because as she says, “there’s no learning curve that patience and understanding can’t conquer.”
Sewing has been in Joanne’s life since age five, when she started hand-stitching Barbie clothes long before she was allowed near a machine. Since then, she’s taught countless sewing and quilting classes, led BERNINA Clubs and Tucker University sessions, and supported major events like Kaffe Fassett workshops and BERNINA Academies.
Her mission? To make every class fun, inspiring, and full of “aha!” moments. Joanne even co-founded a program teaching refugees to sew for income, proving that creativity truly speaks a universal language.
