Garments 103: Pietra Shorts

Let's make a garment!

This class is the next in our series of beginner garment classes and we will continue the learning journey by sewing the Pietra Shorts by Closet Core Patterns. This project will build on the skills learned in Garments 101 and 102. We will put those skills into practice by selecting the appropriate size, cutting out the pattern pieces, marking them and sewing them together to complete the shorts.  New sewing skills such as under stitching, stitch in the ditch, sewing a waist band, seam allowance finishing and application of fusible interfacing will be covered in this class.

This two-session class is designed and recommended for beginners, new sewists and anyone who wants to refresh their garment-making skills.  Students will work at their own pace during class using studio machines.

Skills Taught:

• How and why to use fusible interfacing
• Understitching and stitch in the ditch and the purpose for each
• Applying a facing to the waist band and attaching to the shorts
• Seam grading
• Seam allowance finishing
• Hemming
• Plus other tips and tricks!
