About the event

Learn how to smock in this beginner class aimed at teaching the basics of smocking. Students will learn the basics of smocking while creating a handmade heart that can be used as a hanging decoration, or as a fragrant sachet.

What is smocking? Smocking is an age-old textile embellishment technique that involves gathering fabric in a pattern to create a textured and decorative surface. The gathered fabric creates dimension, adding a tactile and visual appeal to garments and accessories. Smocking is used to create pleats on shirts, dresses, and skirts and is most recognizable as a  decorative touch to children's clothes. This beautiful decorative stitch can also be added to a variety of projects, adding a special handmade touch.

This class is designed for beginners, and is the first step in learning how to smock. Students will leave class with a smocked heart-shaped sachet.
